OUR CHARITY has been caring and working for the region’s rivers and waterways for the past 30 years. As many of us are aware, our rivers need our help now more than ever.
This year to mark World Rivers Day on the 22 September, our River Lemon Partnership Project to Improve Passage (Lemon PPiP) project team headed along to Bradley Manor in Newton Abbot to help spread the message about why protecting our rivers is so important.
The Lemon PPiP project is a partnership between us, the Environment Agency and the National Trust. It is aiming to improve fish passage within the River Teign catchment, initially focusing on the Bradley and Chipley Mill Weirs along the River Lemon.
To celebrate World Rivers Day, which this year has marked its 19th anniversary, Rob and Olivia from the project team spent the day at the National Trust event.
Children and adults enjoyed learning about life in the river through invertebrate kick sampling, while youngsters coloured in fish pictures.
Olivia (pictured left), who is our Aquatic Services Lead and works on the delivery of the Lemon PPiP project said:
“Thanks to Action on Climate in Teignbridge, Seed Library Newton Abbot, and our dedicated citizen scientists and local volunteers for taking the time to come and see us.
“We spoke with plenty of hardy dog walkers out and about despite the rain too, while also discussing our plans for improving fish passage on the River Lemon, which was very well received and supported.”
