Testing the Reliability of Citizen Science Phosphate Data
Author: Fran Rowney, Senior Data, Evidence and Engagement Officer
Earlier in June, we held an interactive session with citizen science volunteers, centred on a live, controlled experiment to test the consistency and reliability of semi-quantitative phosphate measurements. Our aim was to better understand the strengths and limitations of data produced through our Citizen Science Investigations programme, using a rigorous scientific approach. The results were very encouraging – watch this space! As part of the East Devon Living Lab, we discussed the broader context of citizen science water quality monitoring and were joined by colleagues from University of Exeter, who spoke about the wider applications of these data.
