Our River Operations team and Plymouth City Council’s Natural Grid Rangers have been out in the Plymouth River Keepers area installing leaky dams.

These dams are made of natural materials and are a form of Natural Flood Management (NFM).

The dams will slow the flow of water following heavy rain, and release it slowly. This will help to reduce local flooding as well as trapping sediment to improve water quality downstream.

The introduction of the woody materials that make up the dam also add to the in-stream habitat, creating new habitat and refuges for invertebrates and fish.
