Our rivers are rich in wildlife… after all ‘rivers bring water to life.’ However there are large stretches of our rivers that no longer provide the mosaic of habitats that river ecosystems rely on for their different life stages.
Become a Citizen Scientist – As well as helping us improve water quality, by joining Westcountry CSI and recording your observations about the river, you can flag up areas of habitat that are in need of a little attention.
Come on a volunteer day – If you’re keen to join us on a day out restoring river habitat, get in touch via our ‘Get Involved‘ page. We’ll keep you posted when we have upcoming events.
Stop Invasives – There are a host of non-native plants and animals that have invaded our rivers. These species are outcompeting our native wildlife and their populations are hugely difficult to control. But there are ways you can help out. When you’re spending time by the river, make sure you ‘Check, Clean, Dry’ any clothing or equipment you take with you so you don’t accidentally spread invasives from place to place.
