POLLUTING the River Allen sees £8,000 paid to Westcountry Rivers Trust through an Enforcement Undertaking.
C.P.Button Ltd in St Tudy, Cornwall, agreed to contribute to the trust after an investigation by the Environment Agency into half a mile of the River Allen being polluted with silage leachate from Polshea Farm in June 2022.
There was also a slurry pollution event at Bokelly Farm near Trelill in March 2023.
An Enforcement Undertaking is a legal agreement between the Environment Agency and an offender as an alternative action to prosecution or other monetary penalty. In addition, the company has also paid £3,000 in investigation costs.
Our River Operations team will use the funding to implement habitat improvements in the catchment.
