Marine Engagement Day – Seaweed Printing

May 22, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free

Join us at Natural England’s Marine Engagement Day at Lizard National Nature Reserve

Photographic artist Josie Purcell (who also happens to be our coms manager) will be showing you how to make ‘bluetiful’ prints on the beach with seaweed, sand and sunshine, while also helping you learn about the links between our rivers and the sea.

Other organisations will be hosting a range of activities*, promoting engagement and awareness of our rich and diverse marine environment, based at Kennack Sands.

*Activities may be scaled down in poor weather. Please check the website below prior to the event for any changes

10am – 12pm: A silent disco beach clean led by Cornwall Wildlife Trust followed by a creative session using the litter collected;

Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Seaquest station where you can spot and record marine wildlife;

12pm – 2pm: A guided rock pool safari and BioBlitz led by The Rock Pool Project;

2pm – 4pm: The Rock Pool Project’s accessible mobile rock pool – located on the upper shore where you can learn about local marine wildlife with an expert;

2pm – 4pm: A creative session led by photographic artist Josie Purcell, also part of Westcountry Rivers Trust, using seaweed specimens to create ‘bluetiful’ Cyanotype prints on the beach.

The event is a part of our #BringingRivers2U campaign and #NNRweek2023
