Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Our Commitment

What we are doing...

The environmental sector is considered one of the least diverse working groups in the UK.

We want to ensure our charity plays its part in addressing and changing this.

Our vision is to is to see all Westcountry rivers and freshwater environments flowing freely and teeming with life, for all who depend on them.

To achieve this in the region, we will work with the Rivers Trust movement, other relevant organisations, and within our own charity to address and promote equality/equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within our work.

We are proactively embedding this commitment across the trust.

To start, we are building on staff policies and have created an EDI Working Group.

From February 2021, we will:

  • Review our policies and update
  • Seek advice and support from experienced and diverse organisations
  • Participate in the River Movement baseline survey and Working Group
  • Create opportunity for staff training and talks

This is an ongoing commitment from us.

In 2023, our EDI Working Group took part in training with Equally Simple.

Collaborations

Our Evidence & Engagement Officer Sarah Ward has been working with the Chartered Institution of Water & Environmental Management (CIWEM) to create a new network for the LGBTQ+ community within the water and environment sector.
