FRESHWATER science conversations flowed like a river at our annual WRT Science Evening at Topsham Brewery in Exeter on 25 September.

This year was extra special as we are celebrating our 30th Anniversary.

The event looked back over the past 30 years, recognising the challenges our rivers used to face and those they continue to face.

Our CEO Dr Laurence Couldrick marked his 20 years with the organisation, and when asked about what the evening meant to him, said: “It is great to celebrate the Trust’s 30 year anniversary with so many friends and supporters from trustees and partners, to citizen scientists, funders and more.”

The evening’s discussions included our new look Westcountry Citizen Science Investigations (CSI) scheme, including its growth and plans for the future.

Laurence rounded out the evening with a comment that summarises what rivers mean to him, and we’re sure, to many of our supporters far and wide.

“Our rivers are amazing habitats and have a special place in our societies and our souls so they need to be protected and celebrated.”
